Tacos N Frankies: Bombay Street Food in the Energy Corridor

Restaurant: Tacos N Frankies
Address: 1460 Eldridge Parkway, Houston, TX
Buffet or a-la-carte: A-la-carte
Date of visit: 1/8/19

Background:
Salam/hey guys! Today I will be talking about my experience at a spot called Tacos N Frankies. It's a place that has street food that's popular in Mumbai, Frankies, and tacos that incorporate popular Indian foods. Frankies are essentially roti wraps, where you put various items on top of a roti and you wrap it up. Before hearing about what a frankie is, I always associated Mumbai street food with Pav Bhaji (spicy vegetable curry with a soft roll), bhel puri (puffed rice with vegetables and a tamarind sauce), and omelettes. I first heard about the place from two of my friends that work in the Energy Corridor. This was a few months ago. I hardly do go to places in the Energy Corridor, since it's not near Cypress, or my office. I tried this place before heading to the dealership to get my car serviced. It was also a good way to wait out the traffic that was on Eldridge.

Let The Experience Begin!
The store is located behind the Chase bank near the intersection of Eldridge and Westerloch Dr. The interior was nice and bright with tables for the customers to sit on. You could also see your food being cooked behind the counter. After asking what's popular, I proceeded to order.

Let's Eat!
I ordered a chicken tikka frankie. Yup, I decided to go basic by getting chicken tikka lol. It's chicken marinated in smoky charred tomatoes and cooked on a tawa with diced onions. The price for one is $6.48 (tax included). The waiting time was not bad at 5 minutes, given that everything is made fresh.

They do have a menu online, but it's not complete. The website accidentally has two of the same pics, instead of one that is the most important: the tacos and the frankies. The prices are really good in my opinion; nothing is above $10. Besides the tacos and frankies, they have rice bowls, sides, and desserts. What I find really cool is that they serve the sides on a tricycle that actually moves! All items at this restaurant are halal.

The Verdict:
This was a decent snack. It does its job as being a snack that is enjoyed by many on the other side of the world. It's neither too light nor too heavy even though the roll was filled with the tikka and the onions. I did feel that it could have a slightly spicier kick as well as some more flavor in the tikka. The roti was really good though. The portion, in my opinion, is good for the amount that they charge. The service was good though. The guys who were working there were friendly.

Conclusion:
While some places in Houston offer snacks from Karachi like bun kababs and kat-a-kat, Tacos and Frankies offers a popular non-vegetarian street food item that is popular in India's biggest city in a restaurant setting. The one thing I would try on the next visit is the goat keema frankie. Goat keems and peas is one of my favorite dishes since childhood. I hope that it will be good as a roll as it is with some fresh khicidi. Do check this place out if you're in the area!
